Super Why

Mike wanted to be Super Why for Halloween. If you have no idea who Super Why is (and apparently most people don't), he is a super hero with the power to read on a PBS cartoon. So Mike and I made his costume. He needed the mask, but we just didn't get around to making it (although it still isn't Halloween, so maybe I'll make it on Monday).

Abby is supposed to be Princess Presto from the same cartoon. I cheated on her costume and just purchased a princess dress, then made the cape.  Most people asked her why a princess would wear a cape.  Oh well.

I just made Lily a tutu.  I guess that makes her a ballerina.

A Hooded Towel for Easton

I've been wanting to make a hooded towel for Easton for awhile. I had a plain hooded towel when I was little, and remember thinking it was the coolest thing ever. I have a few more ideas that I want to try soon.

Raceway Caddy

Here's the Raceway Caddy I made for Easton using Brooke's pattern. It was pretty easy to make, and it's a very cute idea. Easton helped me finish it up this morning and loves playing with it. Thanks Brooke.

(I'm not sure why the pictures are uploading sideways, but I'm too lazy to mess with it right now.)

Mama's got a brand new bag!!

Finished my new bag. It's big for a purse, but I think that it will work well to hold all of my church things.
My sister Lynne had made one when we visited her in Utah this summer
and I can't let my sister out do me, can I?
Thanks Lynne for the inspiration. Lynne also had some Raggedy Ann Dolls that she was making for her Granddaughters and the cutest little aprons.

This is Lynne's purse, I love the fabric and she did such a great job!

I Spy Bag

I made an "I spy bag" for Easton tonight. It's pretty much just a bean bag with a window and random trinkets to find inside.

on the machine

I finally tried to do some feather quilting. I have always loved feathers, but I haven't been able to do them, I just wasn't gifted with artistic talent like my husband. But I love them and so I thought I would give it a shot. I found an article in a magazine that had a slightly different method to do them and it just clicked. I can draw really great ones on paper. But when it comes to doing them on the quilt, it was harder to get them to look right, but I least I tried them. I was fairly pleased with the way that they turned out, although I still have a long ways to go.

Netbook Sleeve

I'd been looking for a sleeve that would fit my chunky Dell netbook. I tried a few different ones, but didn't have any luck. I'm glad I didn't, because I ended up making my own and really like the way it turned out. I used this pattern for a laptop sleeve that I found on SewMamaSew, and adjusted the measurements to fit. I skipped the velcro, and opted for a cute ceramic button from Joann's. I couldn't find any round elastic cording, so I used a random green hair elastic from our bathroom drawer.

New Table Topper

Since it is the last day of June, I thought it was time to get rid of my Christmas table topper and replace it with this new one. I made this out of some scraps that I begged from mom. It is the same fabric that I made the owl purse from.

Mom taught me a quick lesson on how to correctly do bindings when I was there in April. It is amazing how much better it turned out with her little tricks. I also attempted to quilt it on my machine. I tried stippling, and I feel like I finally got the hang of it around the time I was about done. I know I still need to work on evenness and getting rid of pointed edges. But I tell you what -- when I was done quilting it I was so disappointed and swore that I would never try to machine quilt again. The quilt didn't lay flat and that just burned my britches. So I swiftly threw it in the washer to see if the washer would, in fact, work it's magic. And Voila!!! It did. Now it lies flat and my britches have been spared once again.

Now, on to the next project, whatever it may be. Maybe a summer dress for Gabs, because she is getting too hot in her long sleeve corduroy dresses.

Two Custom Castle Caddys

Black and White Castle
Complete with detachable flower clip, perfect for hair or to accessorize.
My K didn't quite turn out the way I wanted it to, but then again, does anything ever?
Backside of the flower clip has a little dazzle.
The second castle is made from Heather Bailey's Nicey Jane fabric.  Good thing the fabric is so cute, because I butchered the sewing on this one.  :(
It also comes with a flower clip.

Owl Purse

Here is my second attempt at the Owl Purse. This time I had the actual directions and it turned out much better. It was a quick, fun project.

Caddys for Kate

Here are some of the recent castle caddys and roadway caddys that I have made:

Here is the first castle. I kind of love this material that I paired it with. So many good colors to work with in it.

Here is a preview of the Roadway Caddy. I love the way this one turned out. I plan to make the pattern up for this pretty quick. It was a lot simplier and easier to make than the castles.

Here is the second castle. I wanted to make it more unisex and I wanted to try the herringbone pattern on it. I like the way it turned out- a bit of a retro feel to me. Reminds me of an old coat I once had.

This one is mine.

This is also a quick quilt pattern. The fabric has quilting words in it. I tried to take a picture of them, but it didn't turn out. Fun quilt to make.
