Easton's Quilt

Remember this quilt that I was going to make for Easton around the time he was born?

  I finished piecing the top a couple of weeks ago.  Why did it take so long you ask? Part of the problem was thinking I would have time to sew with a newborn.  The other part of the problem was identifying and rounding up several out of print fabrics. So my pile of fabric ended up in one of my sewing totes for the last couple of years.

 While we were on our annual quilt shop hop, I decided I needed to actually start cutting and piecing my poor(3 year-old) child's baby quilt.  It only took a few days during nap time to cut and piece. I used a fussy cut template for the center square of each block. Here it is hot off the quilter, and ready to have the binding put on.

I haven't decided if I'm going to applique the giraffe or not.  The backing on the original quilt was a white wide wale minky, but I didn't want to mess with that stretchy fabric.  Instead, I used a coordinating dot for the back. The binding will be the same brown and white dot fabric as the original quilt.

I'm planning on making a twin size disappearing nine patch quilt, since I have so much leftover fabric.

Abby's Monkey

After I made Lily's monkey, Abby asked me to make her one too.  I had slim pickings for scraps, but the brown eyed monkey is what we came up with.  She also wanted her own monkey blanket, so I made her the little flower blanket with the "A."  She loves them, but if she is anything like Lily, she'll lose interest in a day or two.

My Little Monkey

Using this free pattern, I made this for Lily using my City Girl scraps.  I still have enough scraps for one more monkey, which Abby has already begged me to make.  I always learn something when I sew, and today I learned that sewing random squares together is not a good idea.  Would have been much better to actually plan out where I wanted squares to go and then sew them.  Too many repeats in this little quilt, but I don't think the monkey will mind.  

 And Lily has inherited the little apron I made for Abby with more of the City Girl material that I have.  She's my other little monkey.
